What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism is defined as "The action or practice of taking someone's  else's work, idea, etc., and passing it off as one's own; literary theft."

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  1. quoting from the published or unpublished work of another without appropriate attribution
  2. paraphrasing or summarizing in one’s own work any portion of the published or unpublished materials of another without attribution
  3. borrowing from another’s work information which is not in the domain of common knowledge.

Remember, you can be charged with plagiarism if you:

  • Copy, quote, paraphrase or summarize any source without adequate documentation.
  • Purchase a paper by mail or email.
  • Allow another person to write a paper for you.
  • Submit another person's unpublished work in your name.
